PANAGHIUSA: United Nations Month 2024 Launches at Central Mindanao Colleges

Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) kicked off its United Nations Month 2024 celebration with an impressive event titled “PANAGHIUSA: Celebrating Global Unity, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development.” Held on October 18, 2024, at the CMC Student Lounge, this significant occasion was organized by the Center for International Affairs and Linkages (CIAL), the CMC Senior High School Department, and the College of Teacher Education (CTE) Social Studies major. The event underscored the institution’s steadfast commitment to fostering global citizenship and raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The celebration served not only to commemorate the United Nations’ global mission but also as a strategic platform for CMC to align its academic and extracurricular activities with the SDGs. This alignment supports CMC’s participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, showcasing its dedication to sustainable development initiatives. Representatives from all student councils, academic departments, offices, and centers participated, reflecting the unified commitment of the entire CMC community toward sustainable development.

Among the exciting highlights of the day were various competitions that showcased the creativity and cultural awareness of CMC’s Senior High School students. Participants engaged in the UN Regions Attire Competition, where students donned traditional clothing representing different regions of the world, celebrating the diversity and richness of global cultures. This vibrant display not only fostered appreciation for cultural heritage but also encouraged students to learn about the significance of each attire in its respective context.

Another engaging activity was the Body Painting Competition, which allowed students to express their creativity while promoting awareness of the SDGs. Participants adorned their bodies with intricate designs that symbolized various sustainable development themes, emphasizing the importance of creativity in advocacy and education. These competitions served as a platform for students to express their understanding of global issues while engaging in fun and interactive ways.

Additionally, the event featured the announcement of the winners of the Reels Competition, organized in partnership with Kidapawan City Tourism. This competition encouraged students to showcase their creativity through digital storytelling on themes related to the SDGs.

During the event, CMC unveiled several SDG-aligned initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges, particularly focusing on Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Climate Action (SDG 13), Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). These initiatives will unfold throughout the month, with active contributions from all academic units and student organizations.

The “PANAGHIUSA” event marked the beginning of a series of activities for the UN Month 2024 celebration, reaffirming CMC’s dedication to promoting sustainable development and contributing to global efforts in achieving the SDGs. Through these initiatives, CMC aims to inspire its community and make a meaningful impact in addressing pressing global issues.
