Central Mindanao Colleges proudly recognizes Nerissa Angela Melaño-Doble, MAEd, MALT-English, a
distinguished CMC alumna whose professional journey embodies continuous learning, purposeful leadership,
creativity, and dedicated service to education and the community.
Nerissa earned her Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English and minor in Filipino, from Central
Mindanao Colleges in 2003. Even during her college years, she demonstrated remarkable leadership and
communication skills, serving as Editor-in-Chief of The Cascade, the college campus publication; Senator
of the Collegiate Student Supreme Council; President of the College Peer Counselors; and President of
all recognized fraternities in CMC. These experiences laid the foundation for her future as an educator,
journalist, mentor, and educational leader.
Following graduation, she ventured into broadcast media as a radio disc jockey and reporter for local
radio stations. This experience strengthened her skills in news writing, broadcasting, interviewing,
scriptwriting, and public communication—competencies that would later become instrumental in her
teaching career and advocacy for campus journalism.
In August 2006, Nerissa took the Licensure Examination for Teachers and successfully passed, taking her
professional oath in November of the same year. Her teaching career began under the Special Education
Fund Program of the City Government of Kidapawan. In 2009, she was appointed to a permanent Teacher I
position at Kidapawan City National High School, marking the beginning of her long-standing commitment
to public education.
For Nerissa, professional growth did not end with earning her degree or entering the teaching
profession. Driven by her belief in lifelong learning, she returned to Central Mindanao Colleges and
completed her Master of Arts in Educational Administration in 2014. As a scholar of the City Government
of Kidapawan, she subsequently earned her Master of Arts in Language Teaching, major in English, in
2018. In 2021, she continued her academic journey by taking doctoral units in Language Education, major
in English, at Central Mindanao University.
Her dedication to professional development has been matched by steady career advancement. She was
promoted to Teacher III in 2017, Master Teacher I in 2020, and Master Teacher II in 2024. Each milestone
reflects her growing capacity to mentor fellow educators, lead academic initiatives, and contribute to
the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
A Broadcaster, Journalist, and Champion of Young Voices
Nerissa's passion for communication and journalism found a meaningful extension in her work with
the Department of Education. In 2020, she became one of the pioneer reporters of DepEd Dose sa Ere,
contributing her broadcasting expertise to education-sector communication. Her skills were recognized
when she received the Best News Presenter award in DepEd Region XII in 2020.
Her journey as a journalist and broadcaster eventually led her to become the Special Program in
Journalism (SPJ) Coordinator of Kidapawan City National High School. In this role, she guides young
journalists in developing their writing, broadcasting, communication, and media literacy skills.
For Nerissa, campus journalism is more than a competition or extracurricular activity. It is an avenue
for nurturing critical thinking, creativity, confidence, leadership, and social responsibility among
learners. Guided by the advocacy “Stand for Truth, Speak for Freedom,” she continues to encourage
students to use their voices responsibly and uphold the principles of truth and ethical communication.
Her commitment to developing young journalists has brought her students to the national stage at the
National Schools Press Conference, particularly in Radio Broadcasting–English, in Lingayen, Pangasinan,
in 2019 and Carcar, Cebu, in 2024.
Her dedication as a mentor and school paper adviser was further recognized in 2025 when she was named
Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser in Kidapawan City. Demonstrating that she continues to practice
what she teaches, she also earned medals in News Writing under the Teachers' Category, English
cohort, during Word Cup Philippines in 2019 and Presslab 2026.
Excellence in Teaching and Educational Leadership
Nerissa's contributions to education extend beyond journalism and broadcasting. Her commitment to
teaching and educational leadership earned her recognition as Most Outstanding Master Teacher for
Secondary Schools in Kidapawan City. She subsequently placed third in the Most Outstanding Master
Teacher category of the 2025 KAFNGABAL Awards of Region XII, further affirming her dedication to
excellence in the teaching profession.
Beyond her awards and professional accomplishments, she values the relationships she builds with
learners, parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Through collaboration and meaningful
partnerships, she helps create learning environments where students are encouraged to discover their
potential and develop the skills they need to succeed.
Her versatility has also allowed her to serve as a speaker, judge, coach, facilitator, mentor, and
resource person in various educational and journalism-related activities. Combining her expertise in
English education, broadcasting, journalism, and leadership, she bridges classroom instruction with
authentic communication experiences that prepare learners for a changing world.
Her communication and production expertise has likewise contributed to institutional and community
initiatives. She was among those who worked on the official Central Mindanao Colleges promotional video
for its 2020 accreditation. She also served as Production Design Head and Scriptwriter of the official
Kidapawan City Schools Division Hymn, demonstrating how her creative talents can support broader
educational and community goals.
A Full-Circle Journey of Service to CMC
Perhaps one of the most meaningful aspects of Nerissa's journey is her continuing connection with
her alma mater. From being a student leader and campus journalist to completing her graduate studies at
CMC and eventually returning as a part-time faculty member of the College of Teacher Education, her
story has come full circle.
The institution that helped nurture her leadership, communication skills, and professional aspirations
has become one of the institutions to which she now gives back her knowledge and experience.
Today, as a Master Teacher II, SPJ Coordinator, English educator, campus journalism coach and adviser,
broadcaster, and speaker, Nerissa continues to influence learners and fellow educators through her
commitment to lifelong learning and purposeful leadership.
Her journey demonstrates that success is not measured solely by degrees earned, positions attained, or
awards received. It is also reflected in the lives shaped, the young voices empowered, and the
communities strengthened through one's work.
From campus journalist to respected educator and educational leader, Nerissa Angela Melaño-Doble
exemplifies the enduring value of education, creativity, perseverance, and service. Her story reminds us
that the most meaningful professional achievements are those that create opportunities for others to
learn, lead, and make a difference.
Central Mindanao Colleges celebrates Nerissa Angela Melaño-Doble for bringing pride to her alma mater
and for continuing to embody the values of excellence, leadership, innovation, and service through her
work in education and campus journalism.
