Empowering Change CMC’s JPCAP

Hosts Successful Seminar on Safe Spaces Act

Saniel-Cruz National High School, October 25, 2024 – The Junior Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (JPCAP), in collaboration with the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) at Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC), successfully conducted “PAGPAHIGAYON: A Seminar on Republic Act 11313 or Safe Spaces Act (BAWAL BASTOS LAW).”

This seminar raised awareness and promoted a comprehensive understanding of this critical legislation, equipping students with the tools to promote safer environments free from harassment and violence. The initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 16, emphasizing gender equality and the strengthening of institutions.

“Knowledge is power, and when we equip our youth with the tools to recognize and combat gender-based harassment, we pave the way for a more inclusive future,” stated Virgilio E. Gerodias Jr., CMC JPCAP President.

The seminar featured Atty. Rustan Jay L. Famador, a legal officer and expert on the Safe Spaces Act, who guided participants through the law’s provisions and empowered them to take an active role in advocating for their rights. “The Safe Spaces Act is not just legislation; it is a commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of gender, can learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive community,” Atty. Famador emphasized.

This seminar further highlighted CMC’s dedication to student success through holistic and quality education, which provided not only academic excellence but also personal and social development.

With the integration of discussions on gender equality and legal rights into the curriculum, CMC empowers students to become informed citizens and advocates for positive change.

The event reinforced CMCs commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society.

Participants left better prepared to advocate for gender equality in their fields, reinforcing the belief shared by JPCAP and CCJE that “Empowerment starts with education.” This seminar was a significant step towards creating a safer and more equitable future for all.
