Central
Mindanao Colleges (CMC) has launched Project KAGINHAWAAN to support mental
health and well-being within its community. Held on October 25, 2024, the
session, Mental Health Awareness and Stress Management in the Workplace,
brought together selected 33 employees to explore practical methods for
self-care and stress relief.
Spearheaded
by the Guidance Services and Testing Center (GSTC) in collaboration with the
Office of Human Resource Development and Management, the session featured
clinical psychologist Dr. Flordeliza M. Buhay, whose impactful work across
Mindanao has championed mental health awareness and community resilience.
“Mental health is the foundation upon which resilience and joy are built,” Dr.
Buhay noted, inspiring participants to see mental health as essential to both
personal and professional life.
Dr.
Buhay, recognized for her compassionate approach as a
Psychotherapist-Consultant and administrator of School For Life Montessori,
introduced participants to the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a
mindfulness-based approach that combines gentle physical stimulation with
mental focus.
One
employee reflected, “Tapping gave me a sense of calm I have not felt at work
before,” while another shared, “It is empowering to have a tool like this that
I can use anywhere.” Ms. Trisha Karl Rellon from the Student Success Center,
who engages with numerous clients daily, emphasized the importance of
accessible mental health resources, noting that such tools help create a
supportive environment where everyone feels encouraged to manage stress
effectively.
Project
KAGINHAWAAN highlighted CMC’s commitment to providing a resilient and
compassionate work environment, in line with Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs). “When we invest in mental health, we build our CMCian community’s
strength,” emphasized CMC President Dr. Cynthia S. Asuncion.
Through
initiatives like Project KAGINHAWAAN, CMC empowers its workforce with practical
tools and a renewed sense of purpose, laying the groundwork for lasting
well-being and workplace resilience.
