CMC CTE’s PAG-AMUMA sa Kabataan: Strengthens Youth Wellness and Forges Tambayayong

[Kidapawan City, Philippines, December 5, 2024] – “When young people understand their bodies and minds, they gain the power to shape their futures.”

Guided by this belief, Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) launched “Pag-amuma sa Kabataan: Empowering the Youth Through Wellness and Education”, a community-centered seminar addressing the essential topics on mental health and reproductive wellness.

The initiative was organized by the College of Teacher Education and its student organizations: CMC Generalistas, COSMIC, and the Islamic Students Association (ISA), with the support of the CMC Center for Social Action.

In partnership with Nuangan Integrated School, the program aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The seminar brought practical and relatable discussions tailored for high school students. Ms. Maria Carmela Baranda, a school nurse and college instructor, presented “Understanding Sexual and Reproductive Health”, highlighting how education empowers youth to make informed decisions and promot healthier relationships. “Breaking the silence around these topics gives young people the confidence to take control of their lives,” Baranda shared.

Mr. King James T. Lacro, a mental health advocate and instructor, led the session on Mental Awareness, equipping participants with strategies to manage stress and navigate emotional challenges. “Understanding mental health is about building strength to thrive in both the highs and lows of life,” Lacro emphasized.

The event culminated in the signing of a Tambayayong, CMC’s signature partnership framework, with Nuangan Integrated School.

“Tambayayong embodies the spirit of collaboration—working together to build resilient and informed communities,” said Dr. Jaymie Rellon, Dean of the College of Teacher Education.

This partnership solidifies sustained initiatives addressing wellness and education in the local community. Concluding with the distribution of hygiene kits, the program highlighted CMC’s unwavering commitment to nurturing youth through education, advocacy, and collaboration.
