Empowering Youth through Diversity: An Information Sharing Session with Architects of Diversity
In a remarkable event hosted by the Architects of Diversity, an NGO dedicated to fostering inclusivity and understanding, we gathered for an enriching information-sharing session. This event, held as part of the International Academic and Cultural Exchange (I ACE) Program, featured selected MAEd students as presenters, who shared insights on crucial topics related to education and culture.
The session was graced by Jason Wee, the visionary founder of Architects of Diversity (AOD). Jason began AOD as a student project during his second year at university, driven by a passionate team. His journey of laying the groundwork for the organization culminated in AOD's official incorporation in 2021. Since then, AOD has made a significant nationwide impact on Malaysian youth, promoting diversity and inclusion.
The event featured presentations from distinguished MAEd students who provided valuable perspectives from the Philippines and Malaysia on various educational and cultural issues:
Noraisa Paglas- MADRASAH Education
Noraisa Paglas delved into the intricacies of MADRASAH education, highlighting its pivotal role in providing quality education within Islamic communities. She emphasized the curriculum's blend of religious and secular subjects, fostering well-rounded development among students. Noraisa also discussed the challenges faced by MADRASAH institutions, including resource constraints and the need for modern educational tools, while showcasing successful models that integrate traditional values with contemporary teaching methods.
Ellanie Magluyan Necesito- Inclusive Education in Preserving a Culture of Peace
Ellanie Magluyan Necesito presented on the transformative power of inclusive education in building a culture of peace. She explored how inclusive education systems embrace diversity, ensuring that all students, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, receive equitable learning opportunities. Ellanie highlighted policies and frameworks that support inclusive education, citing examples from both the Philippines and Malaysia. She argued that inclusive education not only fosters social cohesion but also equips students with the skills and mindset necessary for conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
Jayson A. Faan- IP Education: T'boli Culture and Traditions
Jayson A. Faan's presentation focused on Indigenous Peoples (IP) education, with a special emphasis on T'boli culture and traditions. He shared insights into the rich heritage of the T'boli community, including their unique art, music, and customs. Jayson discussed the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge and integrating it into the educational curriculum to maintain cultural identity and pride among younger generations. He also highlighted the role of government support and community initiatives in promoting IP education, ensuring that indigenous cultures continue to thrive in modern society.
Adding to the event’s cultural richness, participants wore their traditional attires, showcasing the diverse heritage of the attendees. The session was not just about presentations; it was a celebration of cultural identity.
Attendees actively participated in a dynamic Q&A segment, where they engaged with the speakers, deepening their understanding of the discussed topics. The event concluded with photo opportunities, as well as the giving of tokens and certificates to honor the contributions of the presenters and participants.
This information-sharing session exemplified the power of collaboration and dialogue in promoting diversity and inclusivity among the youth.
