Central Mindanao Colleges is committed to providing opportunities for our student leaders to develop their cultural intelligence through sharing sessions and expanding their networks toward the mutual advancement of respective academic institutions through the CMC Center for International Affairs and Linkages.
Through CMC CIAL, headed by its Director Dr. Mark Gennesis B. Dela Cerna, CMC has participated in the University of Immaculate Conceptionโs Cultural Sharing and Dialogue. This was held as an in-person event on December 5, 2022, at the ND/HRM Function Room, UIC Father Selga Campus, Davao City.
The CMC โ Office of Culture and the Arts (CAO) delegates were represented by CMC โ Teatro Pawanโs artistic director, Erolle Linus T. Miranda, CMC Teatro Pawan President Beanamae M. Pascua, and alumna, Missie Grace L. Castillano. These TP members are senior students from the CMC College of Teacher Education. Joined by more than 30 student leaders and administrators from Davao HEIs participants, namely the University of Immaculate Conceptions (Host School), Brokenshire College, Davao De Oro State College, Davao Doctors College, Davao Oriental State University, Holy Cross of Davao College, and St. Maryโs College of Tagum, Inc.
During the Cultural Sharing and Dialogue, students from Management & Science University (MSU), Malaysia, and Kyaing Tong University (KTU), Myanmar had a very engaging exchange with the participants. Mr. Azlee Bin Abdul Sali of MSU, Malaysia, and Mr. Pyae Sone Chan Thar Aung of KTU, Myanmar, shared the culture, traditions, and customs of their respective countries, paving the way to understanding the misconceptions they usually get from foreigners.
The University of Immaculate Conceptionโs partner universities in Malaysia and Myanmar, namely; the Management & Science University and Kyaing Tong University, had their short-term mobility program at UIC from December 1 to 9, 2022. This program is dedicated to undergraduates and students who wish to experience different learning and teaching cultures. This program also aims to provide students with a unique opportunity to better understand both the diversity and similarities of different cultures and to gain insight into themselves and others that could never be learned in the classroom.
In the context of increasing globalization and internationalization, student mobility is defined as when students move across their national boundaries to another educational institution to study for a limited time. This is regardless of their study purpose to obtain a full degree or to participate in a short-term exchange program.
From takeaways from the CMCian participants: โI acknowledge the interconnectedness of our Asian culture, and our Philippine Culture from the sharings of Azlee (Malaysia), and Pyae (Myanmar). The strength of our cultural diversity enables us, to become empowered student leaders. We can only address our common concerns and build a more just, accessible, and sustainable future by collaborating together, I am grateful to be part of this cultural sharing and dialogue.โ Pascua said.
Castillano added, โAs an English major student, I am thankful that CMC has entrusted me to be part of this in-person event, with this, I have realized that language is one of the most essential aspects of our society. With this, I was able to interact with other participants, and with other speakers from other countries. We have created connections with one another and established a sense of connectedness through this dialogue.โ
CMC Teatro Pawan is a youth organization of artists and advocates committed to raising awareness about how art serves as a catalyst for healing individuals, society, and our environment. On its 9th year as a student theater guild, the organization brings another year with the theme: ๐๐ ๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐ต๐ฎ๐! ๐๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด! CMC TP is one of the arts organizations of the Culture and Arts Office, advocating the preservation and promotion of Filipino Culture and Artistry as a tool for effecting positive changes in the community.
The UIC Global Leaders Club (GLC) organized the event in coordination with the International Relations Officer, Rene M. Babiera II, of the UIC International Affairs and Linkages Office. Recently, CMC CIAL has been reaching out to other schools, colleges, universities, and agencies from within and beyond the regional border, seeking critical support and direction to create CMCโs internationalization and linkage framework.
