As Central Mindanao Colleges seriously embarks on the initiative of engaging in the integration of internationalization of its curriculum and academic program thrusts through the Center for International Affairs and Linkages (CIAL).
Close to 30 CMCian partakers composed of college deans, program heads, principal, and academic support services unit heads have actively participated in the Institutional Strategic Planning Workshop for Academic and Non-Academic Internationalization dubbed : PADAYON. The workshop was held on December 3, 2022, Saturday, at 8:00 AM , Building 9, College Campus, Central Mindanao Colleges.
Padayon generally aims to equip members of personnel in key positions, technical secretariat, and staff with planning skills specific to internationalization and the strengthening of partnerships of programs for local or foreign organizations. With the pertinent provisions of the Commission on Higher Education memorandum order no. 55, series of 2016, also known as the policy framework and strategies on the internationalization of Philippine higher education, the event was realized.
As a primary thrust for CIAL, forming partnerships or linkages are key to the attainment of its main objectives and in facilitating enabling channels that will lead to the integration of internationalization in the curriculum. After the session, the participants understood the integration of internationalization among their programs and curriculum. As part of the workshop process, the participants were asked to identify significant activities per program to expand their partner organizations and linkages and further determine milestones leading to internationalization.
Invited speaker Dr. Erwin Faller has an impressive knowledge and expertise in the field of Internationalization. Faller is the Director of Internationalization and Linkages and the Professor in Pharmacy Practice at San Pedro College, Davao City. He is a Visiting Professor at Bournemouth University, United Kingdom and a former Senior lecturer at Management and Science University and SEGi University, School of Pharmacy, Malaysia, and a former Dean of Tagum Doctors College, Pharmacy Department, Philippines. Further, he is a distinguished Fellow of the Royal Institute of Pharmacists, Singapore an Associate Member, and an officer of the National Research Council of the Philippines.
Dr. Faller was a recipient of different International academic scholarships including the Ludwig- Maximilians-Universitat (LMU), Germany, the University of Brescia, School of Medicine, Italy, and the Prince of Songkla University Government Scholarship, Thailand. More than the mentioned achievements, he is also a speaker and trainer at different local, national, and international seminars and conferences, and a multi-awarded professor, researcher, publisher, and columnist.
In his concluding notes, Dr. Faller emphasized the value of PERSEVERANCE, โIf not you, who? If not now, when? You should be able to give yourself the gift of TIME. INTERNATIONALIZATION takes time, a lot of perseverance, and determination, and getting things done to achieve these challenging endeavors for globalization.โ he said.
Recently, CIAL has been reaching out to other schools, colleges, universities, and agencies from within and beyond the regional border seeking critical support and direction to create CMCโs internationalization and linkage framework. CIAL recognizes the importance of strategy as an integral part of the program. As such, a strategic planning session shall be conducted to assist each department head/dean, and the academic support service unit heads in creating their strategic plans for internationalization. The session shall also provide an opportunity to measure the degree to which the personnel involved embrace the notion of internationalization and linkages.
