ANALYSIS OF THE FACTOR STRUCTURE OF EFFECTIVE TEACHER CHARACTERISTICS IN PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS: A SEQUENTIAL EXPLORATORY DESIGN

This mixed methods study focuses on identifying the effective teacher characteristics in public elementary schools in the Municipality of Makilala. A sequential exploratory mixed method design was used, and it is a type of design in which qualitative and quantitative data are collected in parallel, analyzed separately, and then merged. For the gathering of qualitative data, a total of 10 participants participated in the In-Depth Interview and 7 participants for the Focus Group Discussion. In the gathering of quantitative data. a total of 300 teachers were selected using the purposive sampling technique. This study revealed that there are three themes that emerged regarding the effective teacher characteristics which put emphasis on utilization of various strategies to achieve academic success, openness to professional development and accountability of teachers in the teaching process. Also, this study designed a 26-item developmental tool which will determine the level of effective teacher characteristics.
