Day 2 | SALAAMindanao: Conference on Peace Research and Peace Education in Mindanao | September 1-2, 2023 at Central Mindanao Colleges, Kidapawan City
The discussion centered on “Peace Education in Schools: Academic Institutions as Safe Spaces & Zones of Peace” featured 𝐌𝐬. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐬, hailing from Kabacan in the Province of Cotabato. Ms. Tupas is a dedicated Alumni Volunteer (MVP) associated with the Madaris Volunteer Program, which steadfastly advocates for peacebuilding through education.
The Madaris Volunteer Program (MVP) stands as an initiative led by the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP). It finds implementation through the Ateneo de Davao University, strategically partnering with key entities such as the Bureau of Madaris Education (BME), the National Association for Bangsamoro Education, Inc. (NABEI), as well as the Regional Government of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), and currently, in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Throughout the session, Ms. Tupas offered valuable insights, drawing from her first-hand experiences as a Christian MVP Volunteer. In particular, she highlighted her immersion into the communities of Maguindanao del Sur and her interactions with Muslim learners and other stakeholders within the Madaris educational institutions she collaborated with during her tenure in the program.

In observance of Peace Consciousness Month 2023, the Al Qalam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University (AQI), in collaboration with Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC), is proud to host a two-day conference. This event highlights discussions on Peace Research (Day 1) and Peace Education Interventions (Day 2), featuring the valuable contributions of local and international researchers, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations working towards sustainable peace and development in Mindanao.
This hybrid conference forms an integral part of the KEEP Peace Project: Empowering Mindanao Youth through Formation, Instruction, Research, and Engagement, undertaken by the Al Qalam Institute with the generous support of the GIZ – Civil Peace Service (GIZ-CPS).
The conference has drawn participants from various academic backgrounds, including administrators, faculty, and students from Senior High School, College, and Graduate Schools, both from state and private institutions. Additionally, it has brought together officials and volunteers representing non-governmental and people’s organizations dedicated to fostering peace in Mindanao.
The SALAAMindanao Conference is an initiative of the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University in partnership with the Central Mindanao Colleges-Official (CMC) and as a component of the KEEP Peace Project funded by the GIZ-Civil Peace Service (CPS).
