The CMC College of Teacher Education Dean Dr. Jaymie Rellon, CTE Secretary Mr. Christian Melaño, and BEED Program Chair Mr. Fidel B. Ladra participate in the 1st National Peace Education Summit on September 26-27, 2022 via Zoom. The said summit was based on the state of implementation of Executive Order 570, series of 2006; “Institutionalizing Peace Education in Basic Education and Teacher Education.”

The two-day First National Peace Education Summit, organized by the Office of the President Adviser of Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the assistance of Ateneo de Davao University and Mindanao State University, aim to promote robust peace and constituency-building interventions through partnerships and network-building and to gather suggestions to strengthen the implementation of peace education in the nation.

Dr. Mario “Mayong” Aguja, a faculty regent for the MSU-System, gave the plenary address on the urgency of strengthening peace education in the Philippines during day one. This was then followed by a panel discussion on mainstreaming peace education in formal and non-formal learning institutions.

The third panel discussion session took place on the second day with the participation of Ms. Amina Rasul-Bernardo, President of the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy, Ms. Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, Executive Director of the Teach Peace, Build Movement, and representatives from the Technical Commission for Culture and the Arts (CCA), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
