Selected future educators from the College of Teacher Education participated in the 2-day International Education Symposium 2022, a virtual gathering for global discourse on educational leadership initiated by the University of Immaculate Concepcion (a university in the Philippines) and the Universiti Teknologi MARA (a university in Malaysia) on October 21-22, 2022.
Circling around the theme, “Teacher’s Excellence: Leading in Crisis and Transforming the Future through Values Embodiment”, and participated by more than 20 schools, the symposium was about exposing education student leaders of universities and colleges to how educational development is implemented through active involvement in meaningful talks.
Day 1 of this activity, which was dubbed as Education Leaders Talk, three keynote speakers graced the virtual conference room. Professors Dr. Faizah Abd Majid of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Dr. Brian J. Masshardt of Musashi University, and Dr. Dinn Wahyudin, MA of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia shared their insights on educational leadership. After the talks was a 30-minute breakout session for the pre-grouped participants in the virtual conference, followed by a quick sharing of output per group for the first six groups.
Day 2, dubbed as Global Discourse, was a quick and concise talk with Global Discourse Sharer John Rey Reyes of St. Mary’s College of Baliuag (Baliuag, Bulacan, Philippines) regarding SDG4: Quality Education (Sustainable Development Goal), in which the key points were teacher, learners, and curriculum. Like what has transpired in the first day, participants were sent to their respective breakout rooms for the sharing of ideas, followed by a quick consolidation and presentation per group.
The virtual symposium was indeed a great avenue for education student leaders to come together and share ideas, as well as create new meaningful connections with one another. Although short-lived, the key take-aways of the Future Educators gathered in this informative convention will definitely last for a long time.
