The Guidance Services and Testing Center envisions the students growing and developing into integrated people, mature, responsible, and productive in life with deep love and respect for God and fellowmen.
Mission
The Guidance Services and Testing Center was organized to promote, develop and enhance the students’ well-being through efficient and effective deliverance of everyday living with full confidence and high hopes in life.
Goal
The school organized the Guidance Services and Testing Center to promote and develop emotional stability, maturity, social adjustment, and physical well-being. The office also aims to help acquire knowledge, skills, moral and spiritual development of guidance personnel who assist students in their needs. It seeks to change the person from what he ought to be, accept his authentic self, and adopt socially accepted behavior based on rational, moral, and spiritual values, enabling the self to adjust internally and externally.
The Guidance and Student’s Welfare Office of the Central Mindanao Colleges aim to provide students with services that will (1) explain how to solve their problems at home, school, and in the community; (2) make them gain self-understanding of their potentials, interests, and aptitude; (3) assist in securing self-direction, discipline, confidence, self-respect, and interest in school, home and civic activities and.
GUIDANCE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
I. COUNSELING AND ACADEMIC FOLLOW-UP
This is the primary reason for the Guidance Program’s existence in the Central Mindanao Colleges. Counseling is the heart and soul of Guidance. It is a cooperative process between a counselor and counselee to assist the individual in a reorganization of attitudes, feelings, and emotions. One can make optimal use of their abilities and physical endowments. The Guidance Services and Testing Center provides CMC students with personal, academic, and career counseling. The sessions are confidential to uphold the right of the individual to privacy. Students with academic or behavioral concerns are followed-up by the guidance counselors to plan out how they could best benefit from their stay in the College.
II. PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT
This is one of the services of the Guidance Services and Testing Center that measures and evaluates the abilities, aptitude, interests, and other personality traits of clients. The Psychometrician is the personnel tasked with administering and interpreting the psychological tests and organizing the student-clientele’s psychological profile. Several standardized tests are available for this purpose.
III. INVENTORY SERVICE
The Guidance Counselors organize, update and keep comprehensive records of students about their home, family, academic progress, test results, interview, health status, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and other data deemed helpful in understanding the context of the students. Data and information about each student are collected as a basis for appropriate and relevant guidance programs and services.
IV. ORIENTATION SERVICE
A. Orientation for Students
Every month of the semester, this is conducted to disseminate essential information about Central Mindanao Colleges that every student should know.
B. Orientation for Career Employment
Career Employment Orientation is conducted for all graduating students by guidance counselors and PESO manager. This is in preparation for their entry into a career or employment. Students are provided opportunities for career decision-making through self-assessment activities and orientation to the world of work.
C. Orientation for Parents
This service is intended to promote better understanding between the school and the parents. A general orientation program will be conducted to acquaint parents with the school and its rules and regulations. Meetings or conferences may also be arranged so parents can discuss the concerns and problems of students. Growth sessions may also be conducted to enhance parents’ coping skills with modern and latest parenting techniques for the challenges of adolescent parenting.
V. INFORMATION SERVICE
This service aims to provide and disseminate occupational, educational, and socially valuable information that gives the students awareness and benefit.
VI. PLACEMENT SERVICES
Placement service helps the students secure the most effective relationship to a job or the next step in their educational or personal goals. It culminates with a senior’s week held every March of the year. Activities are Pre-Employment seminar, Mock Interview, and Job Fair.
VII. PEER FACILITATING PROGRAM
Peer counseling and facilitating is a systematic form of assistance directed towards equipping student candidates with adequate means of coping with their problems through a peer helping peer relationship. Recognizing the potentials of students to help their peers, this program provides intensive training to interested and qualified students. As an auxiliary arm of the Guidance Services and Testing Center, it supplements and complements guidance activities. Under the direction of the GSTC Personnel, the Peer Facilitators are specially selected upper-class students who are trained and prepared to help students in their transition and adaptation to college life and the CMC community. The Peer Facilitators receive training in paraprofessional helping skills, group dynamics, and group facilitating skills.
VIII. CONSULTATION SERVICE
The guidance counselors also make themselves available for consultation with teachers and parents on student development matters. Together, they provide support and work as a team to guide the students in school and at home.
IX. COMMUNITY EXTENSION
The Guidance Services and Testing Center extends its services to the community. The GSTC provides resource persons and or stand as facilitators for seminars, training, and workshops to interested community groups, e.g., parenting seminar, team buildings, and retreats.
X. SPECIAL SERVICES
The Guidance Counselors may conduct a symposium, lectures, and seminar workshops organized for students, faculty, and staff based on expressed and identified needs.
XI. EVALUATION AND RESEARCH
This program aims to provide a systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of the teacher’s performance in class. The results that will be obtained will be utilized for the improvement of the CMC services given to the students.
