CMC Institute for Culture and the Arts Joins the 20th PFDS Cebu Chapter Echo Folk Dance Workshop

Every step in folk dance carries a story, and every movement preserves a piece of Filipino identity. In advancing culture as a living expression of heritage, Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC), through its Institute for Culture and the Arts (ICA), participated in the 20th PFDS Cebu Chapter Echo Folk Dance Workshop.

Representing CMC were Madame Marivic Q. Pascual, Director of the Institute for Culture and the Arts; Mark Concepcion, Special Instructor of Likhang Pawan; and Ms. Ailyn Apolinares of the Center for Performing Arts.

The workshop was held from August 8 to 10, 2026, at the Cebu City Sports Complex, also known as the Abellana Sports Complex, in Cebu City. Organized by the Philippine Folk Dance Society (PFDS) Cebu Chapter, it brought together teachers, students, dancers, dance trainers, choreographers, and cultural workers committed to Philippine folk dance education and cultural appreciation.

As an echo workshop, the program focused on extending folk dance knowledge and training to local participants. It strengthened skills in dance education and production, supported the promotion of local festivals, and deepened appreciation of Filipino traditions in dance and music.

For the CMC Institute for Culture and the Arts, participation in the workshop reinforced the institution’s commitment to cultural enrichment, artistic development, and heritage preservation. It also highlighted the role of the arts in strengthening identity, collective memory, and meaningful community engagement.

As the workshop marked its 20th edition, it reflected the continuing efforts of the PFDS Cebu Chapter to keep Philippine folk dance relevant, accessible, and alive across generations.

CMC’s participation also advanced SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by supporting lifelong cultural learning and the safeguarding of Filipino cultural heritage.
