CMC Social Work Interns Begin Field Practice at MSWDO M’lang
Six Bachelor of Science in Social Work
interns of Central Mindanao Colleges officially began their field placement at
the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of M’lang, Cotabato,
bringing their classroom preparation into an actual public social welfare
setting.
On August 4, 2026, Central Mindanao
Colleges, through its Social Work Department, deployed six interns to MSWDO
M’lang for Field Instruction I under Academic Year 2026–2027.
The placement gives the interns direct
exposure to the work of a local social welfare office, where they can observe
programs and services, engage with clients and communities, and apply the
principles, methods, and values learned in their academic preparation.
The deployment was facilitated by Sharlyn
Lee Armstrong, RSW, MSSW, Social Work Program Head, together with the Social
Work Faculty of Central Mindanao Colleges, in support of the Department’s
commitment to guided and professionally supervised field learning.
CMC Social Work extends its appreciation
to the Municipal Government of M’lang, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor
Emmanuel M. Abonado, DVM, for welcoming the six interns and providing them with
an environment where they can experience the responsibilities and demands of
public social welfare practice.
Special acknowledgment is extended to Ms.
Serielle Mei G. Talatala, RSW, MSWDO Head, for receiving the interns and
providing professional guidance, supervision, and support throughout their
placement.
Field Instruction I allows Social Work
students to understand how social welfare services are carried out at the local
level. It also helps them develop professional judgment, ethical
responsibility, communication skills, and the ability to respond appropriately
to the varied concerns of individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Through this partnership, Central Mindanao
Colleges and the Municipal Government of M’lang continue to connect academic
preparation with actual community-based practice, helping students become
better prepared for the realities of the profession.
The deployment supports SDG 4: Quality
Education through experiential learning, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities through
exposure to inclusive social welfare services, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the
Goals through collaboration between CMC and the local government.
As Batch Hiraya continues its field
journey, the six interns take with them the responsibility to learn with
humility, serve with compassion, and uphold the ethical standards expected of
future social work professionals.
From academic preparation to public
service, Batch Hiraya moves another step closer to becoming capable, ethical,
and community-responsive Registered Social Workers.
