Kidapawan City โ August 18, 2025โ Led by Mayor Atty. Pao Evangelista, Kidapawan City reached a major environmental milestone today with the planting of its 3 millionth tree under the Canopy โ25 program. The initiative, aimed at reforestation and climate resilience, coincided with the opening of the Timpupo Festival and the cityโs 78th Founding Anniversary.
โEnsuring that the future generations will experience what we have right nowโthatโs the heart of our efforts. Our dream is to plant five million trees by 2028,โ Mayor Evangelista said, as he led the ceremonial planting.
He emphasized the importance of collective action, citing the support of government agencies, barangay leaders, the NCIP and IP communities, religious organizations, and thousands of volunteers.
โTimpupo is not just the season of harvest, but also the season of planting,โ he added, highlighting the deeper connection between culture, sustainability, and progress.
The celebration brought together partners such as the Metro Kidapawan Water District, DENR, DILG, and various local organizations, reflecting a shared spirit of bayanihan.
โOn behalf of Kidapawan City, salamat kaayo sa inyong tabang, pagpaningkamot ug sakripisyo para sa atong lungsod,โ Mayor Evangelista stated.
The said milestone also serves as a wake-up call for CMCiansโfuture professionals and community leadersโto take a more active role in supporting local government initiatives that promote environmental sustainability. Itโs a reminder that the work of building a greener Kidapawan does not rest on government alone. Through simple actions, student-led movements, and institutional support, CMCians can be part of long-term solutions that align with global goals such as SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The challenge now is to move from awareness to actionโtogether, as one community.
