Some lessons are best understood not only through books and
lectures, but by entering the institutions where policies are shaped, systems
are managed, and economic decisions become real.
Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) conducted “Banking Beyond
Books: Discovering Monetary Policy in the Real World” on August 20, 2026, at
the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Davao City. Conducted under FIN 102:
Monetary Policy and Central Banking, the educational visit was designed to
complement classroom instruction by giving students firsthand exposure to the
functions, mandates, operations, and policy responsibilities of the country’s
central bank.
The engagement allowed students to deepen their understanding
of concepts commonly discussed in class, including monetary policy, financial
stability, banking regulation, financial inclusion, and the BSP’s role in
maintaining a sound financial system. Through the orientation, benchmarking
session, open forum, and synthesis activity, students were able to connect
academic concepts with the institutional processes and policy realities that
influence the Philippine economy.
More importantly, the visit demonstrated how experiential
learning transforms theory into understanding. By engaging directly with a
national financial institution and its professional environment, students
gained a clearer appreciation of how economic principles operate beyond
textbooks. The experience also encouraged them to ask questions, examine
real-world practices, and understand the importance of governance,
accountability, and informed decision-making in maintaining public trust and
financial stability.
The initiative aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education by
expanding learning beyond conventional classroom instruction, SDG 8: Decent
Work and Economic Growth by strengthening exposure to the financial sector and
economic institutions, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by
deepening understanding of institutional accountability and financial
governance, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through meaningful academic
engagement with a national government institution.
At CMC, education is strengthened when students are given
opportunities to see where theories operate, where policies take effect, and
where institutions shape everyday economic life. Learning becomes more powerful
when the classroom opens to the world.
Choose CMC, where excellence roars.
