“There is almost no
limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises
them as leaders, and continually develops them.”— John C. Maxwell
Long before they
became professionals, graduate scholars, and leaders in their own fields, they
were students carrying dreams larger than their circumstances and hopes
stronger than their limitations.
For some, college was
not merely a journey toward earning a diploma. It was a path shaped by
sacrifice, silent struggles, and the determination to keep moving forward
despite uncertainty. Behind every rendered duty hour were stories often unseen:
balancing academic responsibilities, financial realities, family obligations,
and aspirations for a better future.
Long before
graduation photos and professional titles, there were ID lace-covered uniforms,
duty logs waiting to be signed, offices opened before sunrise, and students
quietly choosing perseverance every single day.
Some carried burdens
heavier than backpacks.
Some silently worried
about tuition fees and tomorrow’s uncertainties.
Yet despite the
challenges they faced, they continued showing up. They continued believing.
They continued hoping that education could transform not only their future, but
the future of their families as well.
Amid these realities,
many found something greater than financial assistance.
They found a
community.
They found
mentorship.
They found purpose.
They found Central
Mindanao Colleges Kapisanan ng mga Student Assistants na Maaasahan (KASAMA).
Serving as a beacon
of hope and empowerment for deserving yet financially challenged students, CMC
KASAMA stands as more than a scholarship grant-in-aid program. It represents a
community founded on unity, support, leadership, and opportunity. Through the
program, student assistants render service hours within the institution as part
of their commitment in exchange for educational assistance. Yet beyond the
structure of service and support, something more meaningful takes place.
Duty hours become
opportunities.
Offices become
classrooms.
Supervisors become
mentors.
Colleagues become
family.
And ordinary moments
become life-shaping experiences.
At the heart of this
opportunity is a legacy rooted in compassion and vision. The student assistance
program traces its inspiration to the late founder Madame Esperanza Abellera
Sabulao, whose very name means hope. True to its meaning, she envisioned an institution
where deserving students would not be limited by financial barriers but
empowered through opportunities capable of transforming lives.
Her vision continues
today through KASAMA, creating pathways where students are not merely supported
but empowered to become future leaders, professionals, and changemakers.
Founded on the
pillars of unity, support, and empowerment, KASAMA continues to build a strong
community that champions the rights, well-being, and holistic development of
student assistants.
Through training
workshops, peer support initiatives, advocacy campaigns, recognition programs,
and leadership opportunities, members are equipped not only to succeed
academically but also to grow professionally and personally.
Former KASAMA Adviser
Dr. Victor G. Quiambao, Jr. reflected on the deeper mission of the
organization: “Student assistance was never intended to be merely a financial
mechanism. It is a journey of character formation. Behind every duty hour is an
opportunity to build discipline, cultivate leadership, and develop individuals
who will someday create meaningful impact in society.”
Years passed, and the
once-young student assistants began writing new chapters of their lives.
From student
assistants to professionals, many now serve in different institutions and
industries while carrying the lessons and values that shaped their foundations.
Others continue pursuing greater horizons through graduate education, proving
that growth never truly ends.
Among them is Nelson
Navaja, a proud CMC KASAMA alumnus who now serves as an Admissions In-Charge
while simultaneously pursuing his PhD studies at Central Mindanao Colleges.
Looking back on his journey, he shared: “KASAMA was never just a scholarship
for me. It became a training ground for life. It taught me that challenges may
shape your circumstances, but they should never define your future. The
opportunities, mentorship, and values I received continue guiding me in serving
others and pursuing bigger dreams.”
Their stories remind
us that the true measure of educational institutions is not merely found in
buildings, programs, or diplomas.
It is found in
transformed lives.
Because Central
Mindanao Colleges and KASAMA did not simply provide educational support.
They gave students
something greater.
They gave hope.
Hope became
opportunity.
Opportunity became
purpose.
Purpose became
transformation.
And transformation
continues creating stories long after graduation.
Once student
assistants.
Now professionals,
graduate scholars, and lifelong learners.
Still growing.
Still becoming. Still
ROARING.
