Eighty-six
(86) Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) students from the Central Mindanao
Colleges (CMC) Graduate School of Education (GSE) participated in a four-day
Educational Trip held in Olongapo City from May 11 to 14, 2026, gaining
meaningful learning experiences through academic benchmarking, environmental
awareness, and cultural immersion.
The
GSE Educational Trip 2026 served as an off-campus co-curricular activity
designed to enrich classroom learning through real-world exposure. Led by Dr.
Gemma N. Kintanar, Dean of the Graduate School of Education, the trip provided
graduate students with opportunities to explore educational best practices,
strengthen professional collaboration, and gain broader perspectives through
visits to key institutions and heritage sites.
A
major highlight of the trip was the benchmarking activity at Columban College,
Barretto Campus, where participants observed the institution’s academic
environment, facilities, and community engagement initiatives. The visit
offered practical insights into institutional systems, innovative teaching
approaches, and academic practices that may be adapted in the students’
respective schools and professional settings.
The
participants also visited Ocean Adventure, where they engaged in interactive
marine life presentations and environmental awar eness activities. The experience encouraged appreciation of marine
biodiversity and promoted greater awareness of conservation and sustainability.
Another
meaningful part of the educational trip was the heritage tour in Manila
featuring visits to Intramuros and Rizal Park. The tour deepened the students’
understanding of Philippine history and strengthened cultural appreciation
through exposure to significant national landmarks.
Throughout
the four-day activity, the MAEd students developed independence,
responsibility, teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills as they
participated in academic and cultural activities. The trip also became an
avenue to build stronger professional relationships and create memorable
learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Dr.
Kintanar shared that the trip aimed to enhance MAEd students’ professional
growth by exposing them to best practices they can apply in their schools and
communities.
“This
educational trip is not only about travel. It is about learning through
experience. Our MAEd students gain insights they can apply in their classrooms,
in leadership roles, and in improving educational practices in their respective
institutions,” Dr. Kintanar said.
Further,
the Educational Trip reflected Central Mindanao Colleges’ continuing commitment
to producing globally competent and socially responsible educators. Anchored on
the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly **SDG 4 (Quality Education),
SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the
Goals),** the activity strengthened CMC’s mission of promoting transformative
learning through academic exposure, cultural appreciation, and meaningful
educational engagement.
