EDSA Revolution Lives On: CMCians Stand for Freedom and Democracy

What does it mean to stand for freedom in times of uncertainty?

More than three decades ago, millions of Filipinos answered this question with courage, unity, and unwavering faith in democracy.

The EDSA Revolution, also known as the People Power Revolution, took place from February 22 to 25, 1986, and remains one of the most significant milestones in Philippine history. During these four historic days, millions of Filipinos peacefully gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, united in their call for freedom, justice, and the restoration of democracy. Armed not with weapons, but with faith, courage, and solidarity, the Filipino people proved that lasting change is achieved through unity and peaceful action.

Each year on February 25, the nation commemorates this historic uprising. This observance serves as a powerful reminder that democracy must be continuously protected and strengthened. Honoring People Power goes beyond remembering the past; it calls for renewed awareness of civic responsibility and a shared commitment to safeguarding the freedoms secured in 1986.

As Central Mindanao Colleges joins the national commemoration, CMCians engage in meaningful reflection on the enduring values of unity, truth, and civic responsibility. Through shared remembrance and reflection, the institution reinforces the relevance of EDSA’s lessons in contemporary society. The CMC community stands with the nation in honoring the courage of those who fought for democratic restoration.

For the youth of Central Mindanao Colleges, February 25 represents more than a historical date. It is a continuing call to uphold integrity, practice responsible citizenship, and contribute positively to national development. The spirit of People Power lives on through active participation, respectful dialogue, and collective action for the common good.

Remembering the courage and sacrifices of February 22–25, 1986, Central Mindanao Colleges reaffirms its commitment to truth, unity, and democratic values. The legacy of EDSA endures in every generation that chooses to stand for what is just and right.

Through remembrance and responsible action, the power of the people remains alive, and the nation’s future rests in the hands of informed, united, and principled citizens.
