CMC Commences Phase 2 of Campus Development Project Aligned with Sustainability Goals

November 18, 2024- In a bold step towards a greener and more sustainable future, Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) officially kicked off Phase 2 of its Campus Development Project at the Annex Campus. This monumental development is more than just a physical expansion; it’s a reflection of CMC’s unwavering commitment to promoting a modern, eco-conscious, and student-centered educational environment. With CMC Board of Directors, key leaders and community stakeholders on hand, the groundbreaking ceremony signified the start of a journey that will shape the future of the institution and its students.

Dr. Cynthia S. Asuncion, School President, opened the event, highlighting CMC’s long-standing commitment to providing high-quality education while keeping sustainability at the forefront. “This project is a reflection of our dedication to sustainability and creating spaces that enhance student development,” she remarked.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Victor G. Quiambao, Jr., Vice President for Administration, who aligned the project’s goals with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Phase 2 of this development is not only about upgrading infrastructure, but it is also about aligning our vision with the SDGs—particularly SDG 4, which focuses on quality education, SDG 11, which promotes sustainable cities and communities, and SDG 13, which emphasizes climate action. We want to ensure that our campus is not only a place for learning but a model of sustainability and resilience for our students and the community,” Quiambao said.

Dr. Gemma N. Kintanar, Graduate School Dean, who has served CMC for 28 years, also shared her reflections, expressing how proud she was to witness the institution’s growth. She mentioned the songs “He” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as metaphors for her journey at CMC, and pledged to support the development with a contribution to the student development fund. “This project is a testament to how far we have come. As CMC continues to grow, I am committed to ensuring that our students receive the best opportunities to thrive in this changing world,” she shared.

Engr. Edwin Icydor S. Paragas II, the contractor for Phase 2, presented details about the project, emphasizing eco-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient lighting, and waste management systems—all of which are in line with CMC’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Dr. Mark Gennesis B. Dela Cerna, Vice President for Academic Affairs, shared his excitement for the impact the new developments would have on the academic experience at CMC. “The growth of our campus is a reflection of our commitment to fostering academic excellence. The upgraded facilities will provide our students with an enhanced environment to excel in their studies and engage more fully in their academic journeys. We are building not just infrastructure but a foundation for future generations of CMCians to thrive in a sustainable, quality-driven educational setting,” Dr. Dela Cerna remarked.

The event concluded with a message from Ms. Marivic Quiambao Pascual, Corporate Treasurer and Vice President for Accounting and Finance, who reaffirmed CMC’s dedication to supporting students and building a sustainable future. “Together, we are not just managing funds – we are nurturing dreams, driving meaningful change, and creating a legacy that will inspire future generations,” Pascual said.

With the groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of Phase 2, CMC is set to complete the project by June 2025, furthering its commitment to shaping future-ready leaders and creating a greener, more sustainable campus.
