CMC Engages in Workshop on Advancing Sustainability in Higher Education

Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) actively participated in a dynamic workshop titled “Advancing Sustainability in Higher Education: Strategies for Benchmarking SDGs in ASEAN Universities.” Held on September 18, 2025 at the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, the workshop served as a platform for ASEAN universities to collaborate on integrating the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into academic programs and institutional strategies.

Representing CMC were Dr. Mark Gennesis B. Dela Cerna, Director of the Center for International Affairs and Linkages, and Mr. Erolle Linus T. Miranda, Director of the Student Success Center, along with Lawrence Mauricio, a Criminology student. The team was keen on gathering insights and strategies for fostering a sustainable and globally competitive educational environment at CMC.

The workshop featured a notable session led by Dr. Konstantinos Balis and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pattama Wattanapanit, focusing on “Advancing Sustainability in Higher Education: Strategies for Benchmarking SDGs in ASEAN Universities.” The workshop explored various approaches for universities to benchmark and implement SDGs effectively, particularly in areas such as environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and community engagement.

According to the CMC delegation, the interactive workshop provided valuable insights into how CMC can enhance its efforts in sustainability. “We are working on aligning our institutional practices with the SDGs, and this workshop provided us with actionable strategies that can help us benchmark our progress,” the delegation shared.

As part of its mission to produce globally competent graduates, CMC is dedicated to embedding sustainability into its academic and operational practices. This workshop further solidified CMC’s commitment to the SDGs by empowering its leadership to adopt and promote sustainable practices on campus and within the community.

The workshop not only provided practical frameworks for SDG implementation but also fostered partnerships with other ASEAN universities, helping CMC build a more strong network for advancing sustainability in education.

By participating in this workshop, CMC is taking a significant step forward in ensuring that its graduates and programs contribute meaningfully to the global effort of achieving the SDGs.
