One system ensures order. One response
protects lives. One coordinated effort transforms crisis into structured
action. From March 18 to 20, 2026, the Central Mindanao Colleges Social Work
Department successfully conducted Pagdumala 1.0 Basic Training on Camp
Coordination and Camp Management and Internally Displaced Persons Protection at
the Students’ Activity Center, equipping third-year Bachelor of Science in
Social Work students with competencies in disaster response and humanitarian
coordination.
The participants were 37 third-year Social
Work students enrolled in SW-Elec 302: Camp Coordination and Camp Management, a
culminating elective designed to integrate prior learning. Under the
supervision of Ms. Sharlyn Lee S. Armstrong, MSSW, RSW, the students had
previously completed structured training in Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management and Psychological First Aid, strengthening their readiness for
advanced, practice-based instruction. The activity was organized and conducted
by the Social Work Department in collaboration with the Junior Social Workers
Association of the Philippines CMC Chapter, led by Christian Magbanua,
JSWAP-CMC Governor.
The Department of Social Welfare and
Development Disaster Response Management Division Field Office XII facilitated
the orientation on training flow, house rules, and participant expectations.
Learning sessions covered international and national DRRM frameworks, the
National Disaster Response Plan, the cluster system approach, and core
humanitarian principles and standards, ensuring alignment with national and
global response systems.
Technical sessions were delivered by DSWD
DRMD Region XII resource persons, introducing Camp Coordination and Camp
Management systems and Internally Displaced Persons protection mechanisms.
Discussions included camp facilities and services, site mapping overview, and
the roles and responsibilities of key actors such as DSWD, local government
units, and cluster partners. Coordination with Mr. Kim Koli M. Jagonod, RN, PDO
II, supported implementation and ensured compliance with the CCCM-IDPP National
Training Program Version 2 under Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2, Series of
2021. The training concluded with synthesis, reflection, and closing sessions
facilitated by DSWD and the course instructor, reinforcing professional values
of accountability, coordination, protection, and service responsiveness.
