CMCs Miranda Leads Successful Peer Review Session on BARMM Narratives
The Probe Media Foundation, Inc. (PMFI) has successfully hosted a Peer Review Session of the “Telling the BARMM Story: Media Training and Fellowship for Filipino Communicators” project on January 30 and 31, 2023 at the Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City.
The project aimed to advance informed, impactful, and thought-provoking narratives capturing the progress and transformation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with a culturally sensitive and intersectional gender approach.
There were 23 fellows, including journalists and media practitioners from various organizations and freelance writers, including ABDULLAH, MORSALIN/DATUMANONG, DATU RACEL of United Young Peacebuilders Society, SUSAN CLAIRE AGBAYANI, FAYDIYAH SAMANODI AKMAD of Bangsamoro Multimedia Network Inc., WALTER I. BALANE of BukidnonNews , JAMAL BAULO of Big Bang Productions, and many more.
The session was moderated by Erolle Linus T. Miranda, Central Mindanao Colleges’ Marketing and Communications Officer. As the moderator, Miranda played a crucial role in facilitating the discussion and feedback among the fellows and the panel of experts, consisting of Ammier Dodo, Consultant for the Ministry of Basic and Higher Technical Education and Head of the MILF Transitional Justice Committee, Intersectional Journalist Ana P. Santos, Brizza Margareth Rosales, Project Manager of LENTE Philippines, Carmela Fonbuena, Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, and MJ Tumamac/Xi Zuq, Author and Founder of Aklat Alamid.
Erolle Linus T. Miranda is a highly experienced and well-respected media and communications professional with over 20 years of industry experience. As the Institutional Marketing and Communications Officer at Central Mindanao Colleges, he serves as an assistant to the Corporate Board Secretary and is responsible for overseeing all institutional marketing communications initiatives. Throughout his career, Miranda has worked with a diverse range of international organizations, including the Canadian International Development Agency and Handicap International, where he held positions as a Media Advocacy Specialist and Communications Officer. In addition to his expertise in media and communications, Miranda is an accomplished cultural worker and arts educator with a background in theater. In his spare time, he offers his marketing and communications expertise as a consultant, and is also a talented visual artist, graphic designer, and hobbyist photographer.
The project began in October 2022 with a media training series for storytellers on BARMM issues and concerns. After the training, PMFI invited journalists, reporters, online content creators, campus journalists, artists, and others to apply for support to create their stories about BARMM. From the pool of applicants, PMFI selected journalists from print, radio, and multimedia organizations in the NCR and Mindanao to be part of the fellowship based on their innovative and critical story proposals.
The peer review session brought together the media fellows to share their outputs, experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from their story production. The fellows participated in the program and received constructive feedback from their peers and experts in the media and BARMM issues. The said session was a crucial step in advancing the narratives of BARMM and provided the media fellows with an opportunity to receive feedback and further improve their stories.
PMFI is a non-profit organization that aims to build the capacities of professional and aspiring journalists to report on important yet oft-overlooked issues and contribute to positive social change.
The program is conducted by the Probe Media Foundation, Inc. in partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF) under Activate Bangsamoro Phase II supported by the UK Government – Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
