CMCs Armstrong Participates Social Workers International Conference in Vietnam
Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) has taken a commendable step in promoting the professional development of its faculty members and advancing its internationalization linkages.
In line with this, Ms. Sharlyn Armstrong, a faculty member of CMC, attended the 14th Eurasia Forum of Social Workers International Conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam from March 20-22, 2023.
The conference was hosted by the Vietnam Academy of Women (VWA) in partnership with the Russian Federation of Education and Social Work Workers (SSOPiR).
Ms. Armstrong was one of the 21 members of Philippine Social Workers Inc. (PASWI) who participated in the conference, along with Executive Director Ms. Eva Ponce Del Leon, President Mr. Rosauro R. Luntayao, and Acting President Ms. Lydia Del Rosario.
The conference brought together over 150 overseas participants from 14 countries, including Armenia, Belarus, England, Korea, India, Hong Kong, Tajikistan, Russia, the Philippines, and Zambia.
The conference’s pre-forum meeting,, held at the Center of Science and Culture provided an excellent opportunity for delegates from different countries to network and exchange ideas. The forum’s main focus was on “The Role of Social Work Profession in the Current Context,” which included two workshops: “Social Work with Children and Adults with Special Physical and Mental Needs” and “Variety of Social Work Practice in Different Countries of Eurasia Region.”
On March 21, 2023, World Social Work Day, the forum began, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Social Work Faculty of the Vietnam Women Academy. The event provided a platform for domestic and international professionals to discuss research findings and exchange ideas on issues related to the role of social work in the current context.
The conference was graced by high-level officials, including Mr. Joachim Mumba, Global President of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), H.E Mr. Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Ms. Ton Ngoe Hanh, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union.
Further, the event included a friendly exchange gala dinner hosted by the Vietnam Women Academy (WVA), where international participants had the opportunity to network with the Academy’s employees and board of directors. The international delegates also visited the Thien Duc Bach Nien Duc Aged Care Center in Soc Son, Hanoi’s old quarter, and watched one of the country’s most well-known water puppet performances at the Thang Long Puppet Theater.
Ms. Armstrong’s participation in the conference highlights CMC’s dedication to supporting its faculty member’s professional growth and providing them with opportunities to expand their knowledge and skills in their respective fields.
Likewise, as it advances its internationalization linkages, the knowledge and insights gained by Ms. Armstrong at the conference will undoubtedly benefit the CMC community and contribute to the college’s overall academic excellence.
