CMC Participates in CHEDRO-XII’s National Women’s Month Culmination
On March 31, 2023, Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) actively participated in the culmination of National Women’s Month with the theme “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.” Represented by CMCs GAD Coordinator, Mr. Dondee S. Soriano, the event, with the hashtag #WecanbeEqual, was hosted by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XII (CHEDROXII) at Sultan Kudarat State University – Access Campus.
The event aimed to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. It featured keynote speeches by influential leaders in the academe, including two empowered women and three empowered men. Dr. Nelia A. Alibin, Commission on Higher Education Region XII Director, and Annabelle R. Dafielmoto, MPHILO, GAD Focal Person, were among the two empowered women who delivered inspiring words on women’s empowerment. Aldrin A. Darilag, Ph.D., CHED Commissioner and Oversight Commissioner for Gender and Development, Dr. Samson L. Molao, President of Sultan Kudarat State University, and Dr. Rody P. Garcia, OIC-Director of CHEDRO IX, were the three empowered men who also expressed their support for women and promoted equality and inclusivity.
As part of the Women’s Month 2023 celebration, CHEDRO XII selected five Higher Education Institutions, including CMC, to present a video clip supporting gender and women’s empowerment. The video presentations aimed to showcase a community free from bias and discrimination against women, providing an avenue for all personnel to promote a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and gender-equal society. The five creative entries from various HEIs showcased their dancing, singing, poetry, and subjective skills, creatively conveying the topic “Why is Gender Equality Important.”
One of the entries highlighted that women can do men’s usual jobs, and there is no reason to discriminate against women’s capabilities today. The other entry focused on the term “Babae Ka, Hindi Babae Lang.” The presentation conveyed that being a woman does not hinder attaining leadership positions in society.
The culmination program paid tribute to all the empowered women who left memorable marks in their respective fields. This was a great opportunity to remember their contributions to the legacy of strong, courageous, and inspiring individuals who will not be forgotten.
CMC’s active participation in this significant event underscores its commitment to promoting gender equality and an inclusive society.
