CMC CTE participates in Summit on Promoting Peace and Development
Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) has been an active participant in various initiatives that aim to promote peace and development in the region. Recently, the CMC participated in the OURmindaNOW Summit and Peace Promotion Fellowship 3 Town Hall held at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City on April 26, 2023.
CMC was represented by delegates from the College of Teacher Education Professors, Mr. Fidel Ladra and Mr. Jimmy Balayanan, together with other CMC school officials, VPAA Dr. Mark Genesis B. Dela Cerna, and Communications Officer Erolle Linus T. Miranda.
The summit aimed to bring together different stakeholders to share and discuss significant milestones in preventing violent extremism in schools and communities. The Communities and Schools Leading in the Fight against Terrorism (CS-LIFT) Project, launched in 2021 by Equal Access International, with funding from the U.S. Department of State, was one of the main highlights of the summit. The project is an education-based, integrated social and behavioral change-informed intervention that aims to disrupt terrorist and violent extremist influence and propaganda in the Philippines.
The CS-LIFT Project is a commendable effort by Equal Access International, in partnership with various stakeholders, to counter the spread of violent extremist and terrorist ideology. Through participatory media and technology, the project aims to amplify credible and influential voices across trusted online and offline platforms, promoting alternative narratives that counter the spread of violent extremist and terrorist ideology while promoting inclusive dialogue and critical thinking.
During the Summit, EAI-PH recognized the efforts of its partners, including CMC, awarding teachers, division offices, and the Department of Education 12 Regional Office as partners in the Phase 2 Implementation of the CS-LIFT Project. Select DepEd12 Partner Schools teachers also joined the event as part of the panel discussion and received their awards.
The participation of CMC in the International Summit highlights the college’s longstanding commitment to promoting peace and development in the region. For over 75 years, the college has been a strong pillar of education, providing quality and excellent education to Filipino youth. CMC’s participation in the summit is a testament to the college’s dedication to further improving its quality education and contributing to the development of the region.
Moreover, CMC’s participation in the summit also signifies the importance of internationalization efforts among educational institutions. Internationalization provides opportunities for educators and students to engage with diverse cultures and perspectives, gain a broader understanding of global issues, and develop skills that prepare them for the global workforce.
Through its participation in the summit, CMC shows its commitment to building and maintaining partnerships with international organizations and other educational institutions to achieve its vision of providing quality education and promoting peace and development in the region. CMC’s engagement in internationalization efforts aligns with the Philippine government’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and promote sustainable development.
The participation of CMC in the summit showcases the college’s dedication to promoting peace and development in the region, while also emphasizing the importance of faculty development and internationalization efforts among educational institutions.
By prioritizing faculty development, CMC is committed to ensuring that it continues to provide quality education to its students.
Additionally, through its engagement in internationalization efforts, the college is preparing its students to be globally competitive and contributing to the country’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and promote sustainable development.
This one-day event is made possible with the generous support of the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Asia Foundation’s (TAF) USAID-funded FORWARD Bangsamoro Project, and the Al Qalam Institute.
