CMC CSA Launches Comprehensive Capacity Building Initiative to Enhance Community Extension Programs
Central Mindanao Colleges (CMC) has recently launched a comprehensive capacity-building initiative with the participation of CMC Academic and Unit Heads, Student Councils from various programs, and academic support personnel to enhance their technical skills in implementing and administering community extension programs and services. The initiative, spearheaded by the Center for Social Action (CSA), included a two-day workshop from March 3-4, 2023, focused on cultivating continuous improvement of community extension services programs while upholding multisectoral growth and empowerment.
The PAG-UGMAD: Institutional Community Extension Services Program Review and Enhancement Workshop provided an opportunity for academic support personnel to review and revise existing community extension programs, policies, and project frameworks. The participation of CMC Academic and Unit Heads and Student Councils ensured a collaborative and multi-perspective approach in developing and enhancing community extension services programs that cater to the needs of various stakeholders. Additionally, the workshop equipped participants with up-to-date and relevant skills to craft proposals for community extension projects or programs.
The workshop resource speaker was Kenny Lloyd Angon, a Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) from Davao City who serves as the Board Chairperson of the Mindanaoan Youth Development Center (MYDC), Inc, a youth-led and youth-serving non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Mindanao. The MYDC, Inc aims to produce young and empowered Mindanaoan leaders who are also environmental stewards and beacons of culture and traditions of Mindanao. Kenny is also a council member of the Young Mindanao Professionals for Peace (YMPP), a network of youth leaders from various areas in Mindanao and of different fields. He leads initiatives towards promotion of peace and preventing violent extremism (PVE) through curriculum development and integration, and currently serves as the Deputy Executive Director of the Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of the Ateneo de Davao University.
The initiative is aligned with CMC’s commitment to nurturing a culture of excellence and providing quality education and means for holistic development and growth, particularly for young Filipino lifelong learners. As CMC celebrates its semi-sesquicentennial jubilee year, the institution is responding to the changing academic landscape by continuously innovating and training its personnel to achieve its institutional objectives and goals.
The success of any program or project is largely dependent on the ability of academic support personnel to perform necessary provisions. This capacity-building initiative is expected to enhance their technical skills by introducing new concepts and techniques that could be used in administering or implementing any program or project.
By providing opportunities for review and revision of existing frameworks, policies, manuals, programs, and thrusts, CMC is poised to usher in innovative undertakings, programs, and projects that ensure quality education and holistic development for its stakeholders.
